The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack announced today the appointment of 15 nationally recognized experts to serve on the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee. The Committee’s recommendations and rationale will serve as a basis for the eighth edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

The Public Comments Database is now open. The public is encouraged to submit written comments throughout the Committee’s advisory process. Written public comments can be submitted and/or viewed using the “Submit Comments” and “Read Comments” links, respectively on the Public Comments site.
The DGAC is expected to convene five meetings, with the first meeting on June 13 – 14, 2013. The Committee’s recommendations and rationale will serve as a basis for the eighth edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have jointly published the Dietary Guidelines every 5 years since 1980. HHS’s Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and USDA’s Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion and Agricultural Research Service coordinate the development of the Dietary Guidelines.
